Medical hypnosis is a mind/body approach which helps individuals cope with health and stress related conditions. Hypnosis helps individuals to maintain a positive mental expectancy and an ability to have control over their health and body. Medical hypnosis is not a substitute for medical care, but is a holistic, complementary treatment to maximize health.

There is a powerful connection between the mind and body. What we think and feel in turn affects us in more ways than most individuals realize or understand. The mind internalizes thoughts and feelings which results in affecting the body. For example, repeated or constant stress can exacerbate symptoms and sensations an individual may experience. Whether positive or negative, feelings and emotions are internalized and affect health. Through hypnosis, you alter your internal world. When you change how you think, visualize, and imagine things to be, your thoughts and feelings change as well. This can lead to physical changes, thus changing our response and improving overall health.

A calm mind lays the foundation for a healing, healthy body. For example, hypnosis reduces stress and the stress response, therefore neutralizing the actions of the autonomic nervous system. Thus hypnosis negates the negative influence over the sympathetic nervous system and the stress response process (known as the "fight or flight response"). Hypnosis promotes healing, influences behavior, attitudes, perceptions, and emotions. Many medical conditions have a dynamic body-mind association; when used properly, hypnosis can dramatically improve an individual's quality of life. Hypnosis is also effective for symptom relief and may be utilized as an unconscious exploration of influential factors responsible for certain symptoms.

For the last 60 years, scientific journal have documented the importance of medical hypnosis for various health issues when used as an adjunct to standard medical treatment. Additionally, is the original mind/body medicine. It is safe, noninvasive, and has no side effects besides feeling more relaxed. Medical hypnosis is also comparatively inexpensive because it is a short-term therapy. It is one of the Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) techniques, or natural healing techniques that both doctors and patients are now rediscovering since it incorporates the whole individual, instead of a single body system.
